My partner and her mom are spending the weekend in Key West. They're staying in one of the ever proliferating Key West B&B's. Key West is one of the only towns on the planet to boast a Bed and Breakfast population nearly as large as its human population.

This past August we spent a week there with the kids. We anchored our boat, September Song, in one of the many decent Key West anchorages and dinked to shore each morning for a day-long slide into conch debauchery. Well, as debauched as a family of four, plus cat, can become anyway. It was a great week spent visiting the many fascinating mainstays of the key: The Wrecker's Museum, the old lighthouse, the hands-on aquarium, and our favorite, Hemingway's house.

After a week of dragging our bodies through every tourist haven south of Marathon, we were ready to hit the gulf waters again for our trek home. Now, I'm up here herding the children solo and she's down there with mom having fun. Of course, she's missing out on two soccer games, an afternoon of drawing and painting followed by a wonderful neo-modernest art showing in the living room, a saturday afternoon movie and countless other moments of fun. Who needs Key West?
