Big Step Two
December 13, 2000

We bought this house thinking we'd live here for the rest of our lives. I know that's a strange thing to think when you're just barely into the thirty-somethings, but we're somewhat melo-dramatic. I had never lived in one place for more than a few years and I thought this would be it for me. Finally a place to call home for good. A place the kids could come home to from college and then visit with their families during the holidays.

It was a great plan. A perfect plan. Perfect if you're a tuber or an oak. The call to the sea is too great and our house is simply too much to worry about while we're away for... That's really the problem. We have no idea when we're coming back. We may break a nail the third week out and head for the first Best Western with a marina. We may find ourselves joined to boat and sea by some unyeilding, supernatural force. I've no idea. But we do know that as long as we're tied to this house and this land we won't be truly free.

Let freedom ring!

We love this house. But, do you ever really own a house? This one is 75 years old and has seen more than a few generations of children grow, leave home, and have their own families. We're really just passing through, anyway. I'm glad we made the trip.
